Board deluxe transportation at the hotel and join your professional local Tour Director for a trip to explore the area around Colorado’s second largest city, Colorado Springs, home of the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and NORAD (operators of the Santa Tracker!) Take a tour of the U.S. Olympic Training Center to see where all of America’s most famous athletes train! Visit Garden of the gods and the remains of mountain ranges, sandy beaches and more that the ancient inland sea & retreating glaciers of the last ice age left behind in the magnificent rock formations. Take a hike to visit these natural monuments up close, learn about the formation of this magnificent site in the Visitor Center museum, or relax with a cool beverage on the observation deck while taking in the spectacular view. Next, visit the historic village of Manitou Springs at the base of the soaring Pike’s Peak, one of Colorado’s legendary “14ers” (mountain peaks over 14,000 feet in elevation.) Have lunch on your own while exploring this cute town known for its mineral springs, cliff dwellings, and art galleries. After lunch, you’ll board the famous Pike’s Peak Cog railroad for the ascent to the top of the mountain to enjoy the breathtaking views of the world below – the easiest way to climb a mountain! All that glitters in Denver is Gold! Begin your day with a tour of the vibrant downtown of the Mile High City, including the beautiful gold-domed state Capitol; the U.S. Mint; and the United States’ second largest performing arts center. You’ll see what is likely the world’s largest bear – it’s 40 feet tall…and blue! ; the “unsinkable” Molly Brown’s house and more. You’ll make your way once again up to the mountains with a visit to the spectacular Red Rocks Amphitheatre that has been played by everyone from U2 to Jimmy Buffett to the Rolling Stones…and of course, John Denver! Lunch will be in the old historic mining town of Idaho Springs (sorry, no mining today for those of you seeking fortunes in gold and silver!) The day would not be complete without another spectacular view as we head up to the aptly named Lookout Mountain in Golden and discover exactly who is buried in Buffalo Bill Cody’s grave.
